The official announcement -- as read before the 8-21 "Firefly at the Mission" screenings:

Quote
The PDX Browncoats -- founders of the Can't Stop the Serenity charity-screening effort -- are happy to announce that through their two local screenings, Portland raised $13,000 for Equality Now and over $1,000 for the Women's Film Initiative.

That's a combined total that almost doubles last year's take of $7,200.

Worldwide so far, the 2007 charity-screening efforts have reported raising more than $108,000 for Equality Now -- a $43,000 jump over last year's total.

Visit cantstoptheserenity.com for details and the global totals, and pdxbrowncoats.com for the local totals.

And keep an eye out next year when we do it all again.

There's a more official thread for discussing this rather alarming figure in the Serenity Now / Equality Now section.
