The event had been promoted on KUFO’s Cort & Fatboy show and a few other places, but there was no guarantee that there’d be more than a handful of the hardcore fans at Tuesday’s premiere. To our great surprise, the theater counted 312 admissions: the place was packed. Everyone had a fine time eating, drinking, enjoying the show, and occasionally shouting important dialogue along with the actors. There was even applause, which of course makes perfect sense when you’re responding to a piece of filmed entertainment.

The place was *packed*, and one guy actually had his laptop out and appeared to be blogging the experience. Thanks for the mention, though. And thanks for the Invite to pdxbrowncoats. Lots of posts to catch up on (and get through the rest of the series... turns out the wife isn't as hot about it yet as I was from the first epi I watched so I've got to go a little slower on the viewing then I had hoped <sigh>) Should be done by the end of next week.

Many thanks. It'll feel good to start feeling passionate about a show again. I really do miss chatting with other people about things such as this, and miss get-togethers as well (I used to have weekly Red Dwarf get-togethers many MANY years ago).

Though it might be a while before I get the courage to attend a shing-dig, I WILL eventually make it to one...

That definately is a possibility, though I can't commit at the moment. I'll try to get an open evening to attend at least one of the showings, even if it's only the film.

Last week, the Mission Theater screened the pilot of Joss Whedon’s excellent but short-lived TV show Firefly. It sold out, with over 300 people there. Tonight the craziness continues, with two more great episodes: “The Train Job” and “Bushwhacked.” Highly recommended.

Chris Walsh weighs in with yet another detailed report, this time about Week 2:

One bit of their announcement may have backfired, though, because when Cort and Fatboy asked for us not to get too loud with the singing, when we got to the opening titles no one sang the theme song. At least, I didn’t hear anyone. I recited, quietly, myself, but the previous week’s lusty renditions were absent. C’mon people; Joss wants people singing his words. Don’t let Joss down. The Emperor Joss is not as forgiving as I am…

A really cool surprise followed: “Breaking Atmo,” a short video commemorating the NASA astronauts delivering the DVDs of Firefly and Serenity to the International Space Station. I flashed on my friend greyduck72 asking “I wonder what it would be like to watch “Out Of Gas” while orbiting the planet inside of a work-in-progress space station…”

Also, many people are upset about being busy on Tuesday nights.

Chris Walsh offers awesomely detailed screening report, this time on Week 3 ("Shindig" and "Safe"):

It must be said: Damn, Joss Whedon attracts attractive fandoms. ("Attracts Attractive Fandoms" could be his Native name...) Geek-babes abounded last night (and the first two nights of Firefly at the Mission, too). I'm sure there were geek-studs, too, but I'm not a good judge of that. In short: eye candy for everyone. Kind of like Joss Whedon's TV shows...

OK, I wanted to get that off my chest.

We're doing well: We again packed the Mission Theatre last night for two episodes of Firefly. Even by 9, when I showed up, we'd already formed a substantial line. We visited with each other, knitted, pondered, or read (the woman near me was reading a Nancy Drew parody; she mentioned the term "the lesbian erotica version") while a light breeze kept us comfortably cool. Entering went smoothly, food ordering seemed to go smoothly as well, and we settled in to most every seat.
