Joss got me good with the end of this series. I waited and watched the last 3 all at once. And that final twist left me crying. No quite like I cried after the final scene of Serenity, but Dollhouse also took my breath with an appreciation for the storytelling, how effectively it evoked my feelings. That final twist was an idea that shouldn't have surprised me, but did, and made perfect and even beautiful sense.
Joss really did put it best in that sing-along commentary song: "He's just a door we open if our lives need lifting." I guess if I could go back with a proper answer for the person who (in 2006, let alone 2010) asked me why I kept coming back to Firefly, that's the real reason. Joss's stories have convinced me that it's not really about that "precious quasi-fame", for him, as it seems to be for so many other TV writers. It's refreshing to spend my money and be glad about the person who is getting some fraction of it.
Over-milked as the current entertainment system is, I'm glad it is there!
