The Signal was invited by the Harry Potter Alliance to participate in an online fundraising event on Saturday, Jan. 23rd. We contributed an appeal to donate money to the organization Partners in Health (
www.pih.org). The live event was scheduled for 4 hours but went on 5. There was music, there were interviews with actors Matt Lewis and Evanna Lynch from the Harry Potter movies and there was much laughter. In the five hours they were on, they raised over $34,000. But it is not too late! They have an online raffle happening all this week until Saturday, Jan. 30th with some freakin' amazing prizes. Included are a complete set of Harry Potter books signed by JK Rowling, a signed book from Neil Gaiman, signed books from Sir Terry Pratchett, CDs, concept art of Doc Ock from Spiderman 2, concept art from Where the Wild Things Are movie, and a whole lot more. To check out the auction and to donate and put your name in to the raffle, go to

The guy who runs the Harry Potter Alliance is named Andrew Slack and he is newly browncoated. Saw Firefly, went meh, saw the movie, went Wow! Went back to Firefly and went WOW! Now he's on to Buffy.

He is super energetic and really nice and it doesn't surprise even a little bit that they raised so much money. I encourage you to check it out. It is stunning the prizes they have, and more stuff is being donated. While they were talking to Matt and Evanna both of them promised to donate some items they'd get autographed by the HP cast. Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy, couldn't be on the show but emailed and said he'd donate a signed guitar. Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddmore in Ghostbusters, is donating stuff. It's truly amazing.
Please also note that the PDX Browncoats will be having their own Haiti Relief fundraiser here soon. Details to come.
